Cerato – The Intuition Flower. From Indecisiveness to Inner Certainty.

For those who do not have sufficient confidence in themselves to make their own decisions. They constantly seek advice from others, and are often misguided.   – Dr Edward Bach

Always follow your first gut instinct.  Your deeper knowledge is always greater than your mental understanding.

A perfect example of not following the above statement is from my good friend, Annabelle. She once shared with me about the task of choosing a set of china plates and dishes before she got married.  It was a significantly expensive gift from a close relative, and with so many choices at the high-end department store where she was registered, she wanted to take a friend to help her make a decision.  The friend was highly opinionated and confident about her choice for Annabelle.  The bride-to-be was not so sure and was leaning towards something less traditional, wanting to try a newer, fresher pattern for daily use.  Because she wavered, going back and forth between two sets of modern china she preferred, the friend became impatient and started to reason with Annabelle why she should choose the more traditional one.  Unfortunately, the friend’s arguments sounded perfectly reasonable at the time – it will never go out of fashion, replacements will always be available, who can object to something classical and classy, etc.

After some painful indecisiveness, Annabelle caved in to her friend’s rational assessment of what she should want.  The traditional china set was duly purchased, and to this day, Annabelle still complains.  “I hate that china!  I hardly ever use it, and I feel so resentful of my friend choosing for me that I could give the whole damn set away and not miss it!  I so wish I had gone with what my intuition was telling me to buy instead!”  Do you relate more to Annabelle or her friend?

Gut feelings are not just a metaphor; they are a tangible biological process where information from the gut shapes our subconscious choices and emotional responses, and transmits them to the brain via the vagus nerve. Thus, it has often been referred to as our “second brain,” which can provide intuitive insights and guide decision-making, especially in situations that require quick or automatic responses.

The inner conflict that arises when our intuition suggests one thing, but our mind suggests another, can be resolved through relaxation, practice, and the acceptance of our own perceptions. We have all experienced periods of indecision at various stages of our lives. But this can become a chronic state, especially if, as children, our parent(s) looked down on, questioned, or belittled our desires or requests.

Cerato relates to the Soul’s potential for inner certainty, trust in the inner voice, and intuition.  Some empowering statements to practice could be:

I trust my own opinions.

I know what is right for me.

I pay attention to my first impressions.

I believe in my instincts.
