Cherry Plum – The Openness Flower. From Overload to Relaxation.

Fear of mind being over-strained, of reason giving away, of doing fearful and dreaded things, not wished and known wrong, yet there comes the thought and impulse to do them. – Dr Edward Bach
We don’t usually share with anyone the terrible thoughts we sometimes have. It may feel like we are sitting on a bomb that’s about to explode, and as much as we try to control those feelings, there may be times when we fly off the handle, lose the plot, and just wish that everyone would disappear!
Being afraid of ourselves and our thoughts is not conducive to relaxation. If we are afraid of losing control, going crazy, or acting rashly and out of character, we often feel blocked or congested inside. Sometimes, we may feel so overwhelmed by a state of emotional chaos that it can seem insurmountable. The fear then is of worrying that we are going crazy and having a nervous breakdown of some kind. In an acute situation, it can lead to thoughts of suicide or headbanging in children.
One of my friends takes Cherry Plum at Christmas time. She says that it acts like a release valve as she has to deal with an ongoing challenging family situation. A colleague of mine takes Cherry Plum when his very controlling father drives him crazy by changing things around his property without asking if it’s okay.
There were two memorable occasions when I was so mad at my husband that, instead of banging the door loudly, which is my usual protest, I put my fist through the door (it was hollow!). The second occasion, some months later, came at another out-of-control moment when I kicked the same door and got my foot stuck in it! This was during a period when I was learning about Bach remedies, and emotions were on the loose, exercising their right to express themselves. Needless to say, it was an excellent example for me to realize that Cherry Plum could help with the spontaneous sense of rage, and that after Home Depot replaced my door, I could find other healthier ways to express my displeasure!

At its highest level, Cherry Plum relates to the Soul’s potential for composure.
It can help:
- You possess quiet courage and calm strength.
- The ability to deal with emotions and express them in a healthy and appropriate manner.
- Enable you to reach into your subconscious and integrate the insights you gain there, and use them in your daily life.
- Give you access to a powerful reservoir of spiritual strength.
